Frank’s Pharmacy in Jackson Heights, Queens, relocated after the original store was gutted by fire in April. I was hired by the PR firm handling the opening of the new store to photograph the store and its staff for their website. The store was meant to be closed for the photos, so we could get shots without people in them, and the staff wouldn’t have responsibilities during their portrait sessions. But Frank surprised us by opening the store that day. It made the work challenging, but the few photos with customers in them add a wonderful human touch. I was careful to shoot from behind the customers so they couldn’t be identified. In a few weeks, I will return to photograph the grand opening celebration.
