Governors Island Photowalk

I highly recommend a visit to Governors Island on a summer weekend when it’s open to the public. The island is full of activities and attractions, even as it is being developed into a public park. I took the free ferry to spend a beautiful Sunday in August with my camera. I strolled around the island, and in particular, I spent a lot of time exploring Fête Paradiso, a festival of vintage Parisian carnival rides which I’ll present in my next post.

From the north end of the island, the views of downtown Manhattan are spectacular. The last ferry left at 7:00 p.m., so there was no chance to photograph the skyline at dusk, but on my walk home from the ferry terminal I did get some nice photos of One World Trade Center under construction and Jersey City at sunset.
