Match Day marks a dramatic change in the lives of graduating medical students. At exactly noon on March 15, each student of the NYU School of Medicine class of 2013 was handed an envelope containing a letter stating which hospital has accepted him or her for residency. It’s an extremely emotional experience for the students and their friends and family.
NYU Langone Medical Center is still recovering from severe damage from super storm Sandy. The large hall that normally hosts Match Day was unavailable, and a room less than half the size was used. This forced me to get very close to the activity, and the result was some really dramatic photos. The handing-out of the envelopes was followed by a luncheon in Alumni Hall.
