On a recent Wednesday night I went to Sullivan Hall, a small concert venue in Greenwich Village. The evening promised a lineup of five bands, and I stayed to enjoy three of them: Levent, Linus the Moon, and Anna Rose. Of course I brought my camera!
The dark atmosphere and colored lights presented a great challenge, and while the venue allows photography (subject to each band’s approval), flash is prohibited (tell that to people with camera phones!). The tungsten lights were easy to work with, but the limited wavelengths of the LED lights resulted in a lot of flat color across the artists’ bodies and instruments. I rarely work in black-and-white, but this is an instance where it really solves the problem
