In Asbury Park, the big polar bear plunge on New Years Day is followed by the Rotary Club’s plunge, normally at the end of January. The plunge was postponed until February 2 because it was too cold on the original date (aren’t cold temperatures the point?). It didn’t seem much warmer this time, but the plans went forward anyway, and no one froze.
The plunge raised funds for Superstorm Sandy relief and for Rotary Eye Rescue, a program that restores vision to the blind through corneal transplants. Every $2,000 raised gives sight to one person.
