It was a great honor to be asked by Citymeals-on-Wheels to photograph their 26th Annual Power Lunch for Women at the Plaza Hotel. The lunch started when Citymeals-on-Wheels founder Gael Greene decided to spoof the power breakfast, which was a male-dominated concept. It has since evolved into their largest fundraiser, attended by New York City’s most influential women and the men who pay $10,000 to accompany them. This year the event raised more than $1.1 million, which is needed more than ever after Citymeals’s efforts to feed homebound New Yorkers in the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.
This year’s honorees were Randi and Dennis Riese of Riese Restaurants and Paula Zahn. Among the notable attendees were Bette Midler, Audra McDonald, Roberta Flack, Karen Allen, Christine Baranski, Dana Ivey, and Lara Spencer. After the whirlwind of photographing celebrities in front of the seamless, I covered the action of the lunch including speeches and award presentations with Gael Greene, Ed Brown, Lara Spencer, Paula Zahn, and Randi and Dennis Riese. One of the highlights was a performance by Audra McDonald.
