For the second year, I traveled to Maryland to photograph the Potomac Dance Centre’s dress rehearsal for their annual recital. The five-hour-long rehearsal was a challenge to photograph with low light, fast action, and limited access to good shooting angles. I made the best of it with high ISO, my fastest lenses, a monopod, and a steady hand. I focused not only on the dancers in the spotlight, but also on the backstage scenes I could see in the wings to tell the complete story of the rehearsal. My niece danced the role of the White Swan in an abridged version of Swan Lake, and I’ll focus on her performance in an upcoming post.
