Less than a month after the Sons of Ireland Polar Bear Plunge in Asbury Park, there was another one, this time hosted by the local Rotary Club. On January 29, 2011, nearly 100 dedicated people plunged into the freezing ocean and raised more than $15,000 to benefit the Rotary Eye Rescue Project. I was there among more than 250 spectators.
It was as much fun as the last time, and I hope that shows in my photos. As bathers toweled off afterward, I asked them if they had ever done something like this before. Most had not, but they all said they’d do it again. They were very dedicated to their cause.
